Concrete Slab Cost by State
What a concrete slab costs in each of the 50 states and Washington, DC, from the same cost model as our calculator.
Quick answer: at the U.S. average, a 4-inch slab costs about $7.00–$13.00 per sq ft installed. In our model the range runs from about $6.00–$11.50 in Mississippi to $8.00–$15.00 in California, mostly because labor costs differ.
Slab Prices in Every State

How These Prices Are Worked Out
These are modelled prices, not prices collected from contractors in each state. Each slab is priced with the line items of the slab cost calculator at national unit prices, then the state's location factor (U.S. average = 1.00) is applied to ready-mix concrete and labor, exactly as the calculator does when you pick a location. Bagged concrete, forms, rebar and the delivery fee stay at national prices, because they vary less from place to place.
The factors are approximate, set by our editors to reflect typical construction cost differences and weighted toward each state's main metro areas. Rural areas are often cheaper than the state figure and big-city cores more expensive. Use these numbers to budget, then get local quotes; the quote checker uses the same factors. All national figures and the full method are in the 2026 concrete price report.
State Price Questions
In our model: California (1.25), Hawaii (1.25), Alaska (1.22). A 20 x 20 ft, 4-inch slab there runs about $3,360 to $5,940 installed, against $2,460 to $4,500 in the cheapest state. Within a state, big metros such as New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area run higher still.
In our model: Mississippi (0.84), Arkansas (0.85), Oklahoma (0.86). Lower labor costs are the main reason; ready-mix prices vary less between states than labor does.
Our state prices come from one location factor per state, so a page per state would mostly repeat the same text. The 12 states with their own page are large markets where climate, frost depth, soil or permits change how a slab is built. For every other state, the table here gives the price and the calculator applies the state's factor.
No. They are modelled: the national unit prices in our cost model, with a location factor per state applied to ready-mix and labor. They are a planning starting point; local quotes can be well above or below them.
